Montes de Oca – General Introduction to the Study of Law (Buenos Aires, 1884)

An important work by Argentine jurist Juan José Montes de Oca, published in Buenos Aires in 1884 by C. Casavalle, Imprenta y Librería de Mayo. Considered one of the earliest systematic works of legal introduction and legal encyclopedia in Argentina, it was designed as a fundamental textbook for university legal education. The work examines the general principles of legal science, including the concept and foundations of law, justice, legal sources, classification of legal branches, legal history, and the philosophical foundations of jurisprudence. This second revised and expanded edition was published in two volumes and became an essential reference in the education of Argentina’s early jurists.
